Professional Club Fitting Information

Data from computers, radar and high-speed cameras have proven that club fitting is essential to playing your best golf. Technology can measure side-spin, club and ball speed, trajectory, distance, path and face angle.

Good data can rarely be achieved by proper technique alone. The design and fit of your golf clubs determines how well you will achieve proper results. This means your good technique is dependent on how well your golf clubs fit you.

To get the best results, the fundamentals of the golf swing should be monitored by your teacher. If the teacher understands how different club specifications actually change your golf swing, you can be fit to the motion your teacher wants you to make. This is professional club fitting.

The club fitting system must be viable so we use Henry-Griffitts, Ltd. Every aspect of the golf club is interchangeable which allows us to identify the change in the golf club that will change the swing motion.

Most fitting sessions fall short of accomplishing this task. Here are some misinterpretations of club fitting you need to know.
  1. You are measured while in a static position.
  2. Hitting a few different clubs to see which one works better is called a demo and is not professional club fitting.
  3. If your specifications are determined in less than 20 minutes, your fitting session is probably not thorough.
  4. If a lie board is used, noting a mark centered on the bottom of the sole, the mark must be in correct position in the center with the correct shape of the mark. You can make a good mark, but swing improperly so both should be monitored.

Our teaching experience can be used to identify the swing changes you need and we use club fitting to fit your golf clubs accordingly. The new, fitted golf clubs will be the greatest influence toward making a better golf swing.

H-G club fitting is available at the Active Golf Training Center and Harbour Pointe Golf Club.

Fit2Aim Putter Fitting

The most valuable piece of equipment in your golf bag is your putter. Aim, stroke, speed, distance and reading greens determines whether or not you make more putts.

What if you could aim accurately? It makes sense that the chances of missing putts would be significantly reduced.

You might think the best way to improve aim is to memorize it, but the problem is aim can not be memorized. Aim changes with every slope, undulation and distance of every putt on every putting green and is a function of the design of your putter and how your eyes see to point it at your target.

Aim changes with every different putter you use. So finding a putter that you can aim more accurately is the most time efficient way to go.

We use Fit2Aim because six design features of the putter are interchangeable and can be tested for aim using a laser. Once all six features have been determined, your aim will significantly improve.

Stroke, speed and distance are all related to aim. Once the aim is established, the stroke can be referenced to aim so the path of the putter and the squareness of impact will more naturally adjust.

Once the path and impact improves, the roll of the ball improves. Putts now become more consistent which will help alleviate the guesswork for proper speed and distance.

When determining the break, you will get a truer read when reduced sidespin no longer deflects the ball on uneven terrain. The ball will track straighter and the true path of the break will be more easily revealed.

The skill of putting becomes easier to learn and more instinctive to do. Take the over-thinking out of putting and sink putts! Please contact us to make an appointment for a club or putter fitting session. chris@chrisaokigolf.com or (425) 348-4686 .
